BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Three newcomers combined to score 9-of-10 goals to lead nationally fifth-ranked Cortland to a 10-5 win over The College at Brockport Tuesday afternoon in SUNYAC women's lacrosse action. The Red Dragons improved to 8-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference with the victory, while the Golden Eagles fell to 3-3 and 1-1.

Freshman Ashley Cook (Commack) matched her career high with four goals to pace the Cortland offense. Sophomore Mary Hartzheim (Manlius/Fayetteville-Manlius), in her first year with the program, produced three goals and one assist, and freshman Liz Beville (Syracuse/Jamesville-DeWitt) tallied a career-best six points on two goals and four assists. 

Junior Erin Kollar (East Islip) netted a goal, and juniors Lindsay Abbott (South Onondaga/Onondaga Central) and Jordan Miller (Liverpool) each chipped in with an assist for the Red Dragons. Cook and sophomore Jamie Flood (East Islip) recorded game highs of four ground balls apiece. Sophomore goalie Ally Levy (Reisterstown, MD/Seton Keough) made nine saves, including seven in the second half, to earn the win.

Five different players scored one goal for the Golden Eagles -- juniors Dayna Piraino (Chittenango) and Carly Motondo (Syracuse/West Genesee), sophomores Stephanie Toomey (East Rochester) and Sarah Brown (Syracuse/West Genesee) and freshman Alyssa Scordo (Watertown/South Jefferson). Senior goalie Jamie Kaminsky (Oakdale/Sayville) registered seven saves.

Beville had a hand in Cortland's first three goals, scoring the first two and assisting on Hartzheim's first of the game, as the Red Dragons opened up a 3-0 lead two minutes, 51 seconds into the game. Motondo put Brockport on the scoreboard at 25:54, and Cook answered with her first of the game 64 seconds later to give Cortland a 4-1 lead. Toomey and Brown pulled the Golden Eagles to within 4-3, but Cook sent Cortland into intermission with a 5-3 lead with her second score at the 14:18 mark.

After Hartzheim and Scordo traded goals to open the second half, Cortland went on a four-goal run to open up a 10-4 lead with 11:14 remaining to take control of the game. Beville set up Hartzheim and Kollar, and Cook added her third and fourth goals of the game. Piraino completed the scoring with a free-position goal at 2:31.
