CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally fifth-ranked Cortland men's lacrosse team went on an 11-0 run that spanned 35 minutes, 42 seconds from late in the first quarter to early in the fourth quarter and defeated Ithaca, 13-4, Wednesday night in non-conference action at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons improved to 6-2 with the win, and the Bombers fell to 5-3.
Nine different players found the back of the net for Cortland, led by senior
Jay DiStefano (Huntington/Harborfields), who scored three times and added an assist. Junior
Zack Mulvaney (Deferiet/Carthage) had two goals and an assist, freshman Mark Panneton (Niskayuna) scored twice and freshman Joe Slavik (Binghamton/Seton Catholic) recorded a goal and two assists. Five others tallied one goal each with freshman
Matt DiMarco (Liverpool) netting the first of his career.

Chris DeLuca (Sayville) chipped in with two assists and won 9-of-11 faceoffs. Freshman defender

Junior Tom Mongelli (Kinnelon, NJ) scored two goals for the Bombers. Seniors Michael Silipo (Deerfield, MA/Williston Northampton) and Ryan Lowe (Fairport) each scored a goal, and junior Devin Weinshank (Long Beach) recorded two assists. Junior Chris Duncan (Denver, CO/Regis Jesuit) collected a game-high 10 ground balls. Senior goalie David Gal (Amherst, MA/Loomis Chafee) turned aside 17 shots.
Lowe gave the Bombers the lead at 10:51 of the opening quarter, and Mongelli made it a 2-0 game 47 seconds before the end of the stanza. Mongelli's score would be Ithaca's last until the 10:05 mark of the fourth quarter as Cortland took control of the game with 11 straight goals. The Red Dragons led 6-2 at the half as Panneton and DiStefano each scored twice.

Thomas Casey (Yorktown) and DiMarco followed with goals for Cortland, and Mongelli finished the scoring with eight seconds on the clock.
