Kathy Taylor Earns Pair of Regional Coaching Honors; Abbott Named ECAC Offensive Player of the Year

SUNY Cortland women's lacrosse head coach Kathy Taylor has been chosen as both the 2011 Division III Empire Region Coach of the Year by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and the 2011 Division III Upstate New York Coach of the Year by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).

In addition, Cortland junior midfielder Lindsay Abbott (South Onondaga/Onondaga Central) has been selected as the ECAC Division III Upstate New York Offensive Player of the Year.

Taylor's Red Dragons finished with a 21-2 record and set a school record for victories in a season. Cortland won its 13th straight State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) title and made its 13th consecutive NCAA Division III tournament appearance. Cortland advanced to the NCAA Div. III “final four” for the second time in school history and tied for third nationally after falling 13-11 to eventual national champion Gettysburg in the national semifinals.

In her three seasons at Cortland, Taylor has a combined record of 52-12. She is a Cornell University alumna and won two state titles (2004 and 2005) while the head coach at Fayetteville-Manlius High School.

Abbott enjoyed one of the best seasons ever by a Cortland player. In 23 games, she totaled 62 goals and 76 assists for 138 points. She also recorded 95 draw controls, 33 caused turnovers and 45 ground balls.

Abbott set school records for single-season points and single-season assists. She broke the previous points record by 30 and the previous assists record by 34. Abbott led the nation in total assists and ranked second in total points. In three seasons, Abbott is already Cortland's career leader with 126 assists and 311 total points and is tied for fifth with 185 goals.
