Late Run Helps Cortland Beat Potsdam, 75-63

Ally Biordi made three second-half three-pointers, including two during Cortland's 12-0 run that sealed the win
POTSDAM, N.Y. – Cortland scored 12 straight points to break a 56-56 tie with less than eight minutes remaining and the Red Dragons defeated host Potsdam, 75-63. The Red Dragons improved to 11-7 overall and 6-5 in the SUNYAC.

Senior Brittany Cohen (Fayetteville/Jamesville-DeWitt) led Cortland with 19 points, 14 in the second half, and six assists. She also grabbed five rebounds. Sophomore Megan Touhey (Maine/Maine-Endwell) finished with 12 points and five rebounds.

Senior Micki Volpini (Newfield) registered 11 points and five rebounds and is now seven points shy of reaching 1,000 career points. Senior Ally Biordi (Beacon) scored nine points on three second-half three-pointers and senior Molly Byrne (Syracuse/Bishop Ludden) led the team with six rebounds.

Katy Briedis led Potsdam (4-13, 2-8 SUNYAC) with 15 points and Jessica Kouzan scored 14 points and pulled down six rebounds. Hannah Kmiecinski finished with nine points and a team-high five assists and Sophie Parks gathered in a game-high seven rebounds.

Potsdam led 33-32 at halftime and 43-37 with 16:30 left in the game. Cortland came back and eventually tied the game at 47-47 on a Cohen three-pointer with 14:07 left. Touhey made a foul shot at the 12:54 mark and a jumper with 12:13 left to give the Red Dragons a three-point lead.

Potsdam tied the game at 56-56 on Kmiecinski's third three-pointer of the game with 7:22 remaining. Cortland started its decisive run with a Biordi three-pointer 18 seconds later. Byrne nailed a three-pointer with 6:22 left, followed by a Megan Maycumber (Jamesville/Jamesville-DeWitt) layup at 5:27 and another Biordi three-pointer with 4:51 left. Cohen's foul shot with 2:40 left pushed the lead to 68-56, and Potsdam never got back any closer than nine points.

Cortland shot 48 percent from the field in the second half and 42 percent for the game. The Red Dragons made 10-of-27 three-pointers (37 percent). Biordi made 3-of-6 treys. Potsdam also had a solid night from behind the arc with 10-of-25 three-point accuracy (40 percent).

Cortland will play at Plattsburgh on Saturday at 2 p.m.
