Ben Strickland (Stanfordville/Home School) and senior
Travis Burke (Massapequa) have been selected as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for the week ending Jan. 29.
Strickland wins Swimmer of the Week for the first time, while Burke is Diver of the Week for the second time this season. He also won the award in late October.
Strickland won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.05) and 400-yard individual medley (4:30.99) and was part of the winning 200-yard medley relay team (1:38.62) in a 158-135 dual-meet win at Fredonia on Saturday. Earlier in the week, he won the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.92) and was part of the winning 400-yard medley relay (3:40.95) in a 134-96 dual-meet win vs. Oswego.
Burke finished third out of 19 competitors on the three-meter board and fourth out of 19 on the one-meter board at the Ithaca Diving Invitational Sunday. He recorded NCAA provisional qualifying scores of 483.90 points in the three-meter competition and 442.80 points in the one-meter event. Earlier in the week, he posted the highest scores, as an exhibition entry, on both the three-meter (301.35 pts.) and one-meter (271.00 pts.) boards in a home dual meet vs. Oswego.
Cortland finished its dual-meet season with a 10-4 record for its eighth straight season with at least 10 victories.
