#13 Cortland Red Dragons Close Home Portion of Schedule with Dominating, 33-4, Win vs. Lycoming

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The nationally 13th-ranked Cortland wrestling team won the final nine weight classes to defeat visiting Lycoming, 33-4, Saturday night at Corey Gymnasium in the Red Dragons' final home match of the season. Cortland improved to 16-2, and the Warriors fell to 5-8.

Lycoming opened the match with a 16-5 major decision from senior Stephen Hinton (Montclair, VA/Forest Park) at 125 pounds. Hinton raised his season record to 13-2 with the victory. Cortland junior Sean Kempf (Wantagh/MacArthur) started the Red Dragons' streak with a 5-2 decision at 133 pounds. Junior Brian Bistis (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) followed with a 6-2 decision at 141 pounds to raise his record to 21-5 on the season.

At 149 pounds, junior Adam Hulett (East Greenbush/Columbia) recorded his team-high 12th pin of the season in 1:35 and the Red Dragons led 12-4. Junior Troy Sterling (Uniondale), ranked second nationally at 157 pounds, returned to the lineup for Cortland and registered a 10-4 decision. Junior Jonathan Conroy (South Plainfield, NJ) followed with a 7-1 decision at 165, his team-high 27th win of the season, and the Red Dragons led 18-4.

At 174 pounds, Cortland freshman Lou Puca (Huntington) scored the deciding points in the match with a pin in 5:56 to make it 24-4. Senior Carl Korpi (Miller Place) then won a narrow 6-5 decision versus junior Tyler Cunningham (Haddon Township, NJ) at 184 pounds. Korpi scored the winning takedown with 43 seconds remaining and was able to prevent Cunningham from tying the bout with an escape.

Nationally third-ranked Jared Myhrberg (Queensbury) improved his record to 24-0 on the season as he defeated senior Russ Korbul (Asbury, NJ/North Hunterdon), 3-1, at 197 pounds. Junior Corey James (Kingston) concluded the match with a 3-2 decision at 285 pounds over freshman Sam Batchelor (Birdsboro, PA/Daniel Boone).
