CORTLAND, N.Y. – Eleven different players scored goals as the nationally second-ranked Cortland men's lacrosse team rolled to a 14-3 victory versus Plattsburgh Saturday afternoon in the SUNYAC opener for both schools. The Red Dragons ran their record to 8-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while the Cardinals fell to 6-4 and 0-1.

Mike Kaminski (Sayville) started in the cage, surrendering one goal and making eight saves in 35 minutes, 24 seconds. Sophomore
Steve Mahle (Syracuse/West Genesee) saw his first action as a Red Dragon, making three saves and allowing one goal in 18:04, and sophomore
Scott Tota (Webster/Webster Schroeder) did not register a stop over the final 6:32. Junior
Nick Jarvis (Syracuse/Onondaga Central) won 9-of-13 faceoffs, sophomore
Doug Meehan (Sayville) collected six ground balls and
Mike Tota recorded five ground balls.
Junior Tommy Kilderry (Glen Head/North Shore) and sophomores Anthony Pafundi (Islip Terrace/East Islip) and Nick Travers (Smithtown/Sacred Heart) netted one goal apiece for Plattsburgh with junior Brett McClelland (Oswego/Mercyhurst) and freshman James Read (Miller Place) each adding an assist. Junior goalie Gordie Gehring (Jamesville/Jamesville-DeWitt) registered eight saves in 58:43 before giving way to freshman Chris Guzzetta (East Islip), who did not face a shot on goal in the final 1:17. Junior Mike Santisteban (Lawrence) won 7-of-14 faceoffs and scooped up five ground balls. Gehring recorded six ground balls and McClelland had four.
The Red Dragons built an 8-0 lead through the midway point of the second quarter after leading 3-0 through the first 15 minutes of play. In the opening quarter, Treusdell tallied his first career goal at 8:38 and Slavik and Mendoza followed with goals at 4:48 and 2:53, respectively. Cortland pushed its lead to 8-0 with five straight goals in the second quarter. Wright scored his first at 11:55 then assisted on Tota's goal just 35 seconds later. Rakoczy netted his first of the game at 9:37, Wolak scored at 8:26 and Rakoczy finished off the run at 7:56. Pafundi finally put the Cardinals on the scoreboard at 7:19, but the Red Dragons closed the quarter with scores from Ohman and Consul for a 10-1 lead at the break.
Cortland sealed the win with the first four goals of the third quarter for a 14-1 lead. Casey, Mulvaney and Consul tallied even-strength goals and Wright added a man-up goal at 5:22. Kilderry made it 14-2 at 3:49 of the third quarter and Travers completed the scoring at 1:31 of the fourth quarter as Cortland emptied its bench.
