#2 Red Dragons Drub Brockport, 17-3

Senior Greg Wright led all scorers with seven points
BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Senior Greg Wright (Irondequoit/West Irondequoit) led all scorers with seven points on three goals and four assists as the nationally second-ranked Cortland men's lacrosse team defeated The College at Brockport, 17-3, Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC action. The Red Dragons improved to 12-0 overall and 4-0 in the conference, while the Golden Eagles fell to 5-7 and 1-2.

Sophomore Joe Slavik (Binghamton/Seton Catholic) scored two goals and recorded an assist, junior Taylor Mendoza (Greensboro, NC/Western Guilford) and sophomore Cody Consul (Webster/Webster Schroeder) each scored twice and senior Mike Tota (Webster/Webster Schroeder) recorded one goal and three assists. Six other players netted one goal apiece and freshman Dieter Treusdell (Painted Post/Corning West) collected three assists.

Junior goalie Mike Kaminski (Sayville) made seven saves and surrendered two goals in the first half before giving way to sophomore Scott Tota (Webster/Webster Schroeder), who stopped three shots over the final 30 minutes. Junior Nick Jarvis (Syracuse/Onondaga Central) won 10-of-15 faceoffs and registered seven ground balls.

Matt Andon-McLane, Brendan Rothfuss and Riley Austin each scored a goal for Brockport. Cory Banwaree made seven saves in 39:13, and Jason Baetzhold turned aside three shots in 20:47.

Andon-McLane gave the Golden Eagles the lead at 8:59 of the opening quarter, but junior Sean Davern (Irondequoit) tied the game just 16 seconds later. Consul's first goal of the game at the 5:52 mark put Cortland ahead, 2-1, before Austin tied the score at 3:54. The Red Dragons then tallied the next 10 goals spanning the end of the first quarter to late in the third quarter to take control of the game. Wright collected a goal and three assists, Slavik scored twice and Tota recorded a goal and two assists during the streak.

Rothfuss ended the run at 2:48 of the third quarter, but Wright closed the stanza off a Treusdell assist at 1:35 and Cortland led 13-3 heading into the fourth quarter. Four different players found the back of the net for the Red Dragons as they outscored Brockport, 4-0, over the last 15 minutes for the final of 17-3.
