The 2012 SUNY Cortland C-Club Athletic Awards Ceremony, held April 30 at the College's Alumni Arena, honored the top student-athletes from among the 600-plus who competed on Cortland's 25 men's and women's intercollegiate teams during the past academic year.

The SUNY Cortland C-Club Male Senior Athlete of the Year Award was presented to men's lacrosse attack Mike Tota (Webster/Webster Schroeder) and the C-Club Female Senior Athlete of the Year Award was given to women's lacrosse midfielder Lindsay Abbott (South Onondaga/Onondaga Central). The awards were sponsored by the C-Club and were voted upon by Cortland athletic administrators.

Tota also won the Robert J. Weber Award as the senior male student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average. Tota is a business economics major with a 4.09 GPA prior to the spring semester. Weber was Cortland's director of athletics for 12 years and the Chairman of the Men's Physical Education department for 15 years. He worked at Cortland from 1952-85.

Tota has current career totals of 162 goals and 61 assists for 223 total points. He's second in school history in goals scored and tied for fifth in points. Tota earned All-America honors as both a sophomore and junior and was both the SUNYAC and ECAC Upstate New York Rookie of the Year in 2009.

Abbott is Cortland's career scoring leader with current totals of 244 goals and 171 assists for 415 total points. She became only the fourth player in NCAA Div. III history to reach the career 400-point mark. Abbott is a three-time All-American, including first-team honors each of the last two seasons, and was the 2011 womenslacrosse.com national Midfielder of the Year.

Other finalists for Male Senior Athlete of the Year football offensive lineman Billy Castro (Washingtonville), baseball second baseman Matt June (Colonie), football quarterback Dan Pitcher (Cortland) and track and field pole vaulter Ryan Pericozzi (Lancaster). Other Female Senior Athlete of the Year finalists were basketball guard Brittany Cohen (Fayetteville/Jamesville-DeWitt), cross country/track and field distance runner Alyson Dalton (Sherrill/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill), women's soccer goalie Pam Monnier (East Northport/Northport) and softball pitcher Lyndsay Rowell (Sandy Creek).

Monnier, a graduate student, received the M. Louise Moseley Award, which goes to a final-year female athlete who has demonstrated both strong leadership skills and athletic achievement. Cortland's career saves leader, Monnier was named the ECAC Div. III Upstate New York Defensive Player of the Year and the SUNYAC Player of the Year last fall after recording a 0.66 goals against average and 11 shutouts. Moseley was Cortland's Director of Women's Athletics from 1966-78. A pioneer for women's athletics, she played an integral role in the start of women's intercollegiate athletics at Cortland in the late 1960s.

Pitcher, also a graduate student, received the Carl "Chugger" Davis Award, which is given to a final-year male athlete for strong leadership skills and athletic achievement. Last fall, Pitcher was a finalist for the Gagliardi Trophy, the Division III national player of the year award, and earned All-America honors. He holds school records for touchdown passes in a career (54) and season (31 in 2011). Davis was Cortland's head football coach from 1932 to 1962 and also coached baseball, basketball and golf.

Women's track and field sprinter Jenna Evarts (West Islip) earned the Whitney T. Corey '43 Award, which is presented to the senior female student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average. Evarts is a childhood education major with a 4.08 overall GPA entering the spring semester. Corey coached men's basketball at Cortland in the 1950s and early 1960s and also served as the school's vice president for academic affairs. The main gymnasium in Cortland's Park Center bears his name.

Graduate student Larry Miller received the Peter J. Cahill '66 Award. The award, named for Cortland's former swimming and diving and women's tennis head coach, is presented to either a current student-athlete for involvement in activities outside of sports, or to a current non-athlete student for contributions to the Athletics Department. Miller, a sport management major, is currently a graduate assistant in the Athletics Department and an assistant coach on the softball team. He has also worked as a sports information assistant and as an event manager while a student at Cortland.

The 16th annual C-Club Coach of the Year Award was presented to women's soccer head coach Heidi Woodcock, who led her team to a 14-6-3 record, the SUNYAC regular-season title and the NCAA Div. III tournament quarterfinals last fall.

Robert Johnson, Cortland's retiring coordinator of athletic tutoring, was chosen as the Fraser Stokes Award winner for his dedication and service to Cortland Athletics. The Judson and Elise Taylor Team GPA Awards, named after the former SUNY Cortland president and his wife, were presented to the men's and women's athletic teams with the highest cumulative grade point averages. The men's soccer team (3.09 GPA) claimed the men's award for the second straight year and the women's volleyball team (3.32 GPA) was the women's winner. The award was first given in 2003.
