SUNY Cortland senior midfielder Maria Di Fato (Camillus/West Genesee) has been chosen as the 2013 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Div. III Mid-Atlantic Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Year, while freshman attacker Erica Geremia (Camillus/West Genesee) has been named the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Rookie of the Year.

Di Fato and Geremia are two of Cortland's three All-ECAC first-team selections, along with junior defender Jessica Lavelle (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius).

In addition, three Cortland players - Di Fato, defender Natalie Melaniff (Wantagh) and defender Jamie Flood (East Islip) - have been chosen to compete in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Div. III North-South Senior All-Star Game on Sunday, May 26, at 2 p.m. at Cabrini College in Radnor, Pa.

Di Fato is a first-team All-ECAC choice for the third time in her career. Despite missing five of Cortland's 23 games this spring, she still finished the season with 61 goals and 18 assists for 79 points. She also recorded 49 ground balls and 38 caused turnovers.

In her four seasons at Cortland, Di Fato recorded 244 goals and 86 assists for 330 points. She ranks second at Cortland in career goals and total points. Di Fato also graduates as Cortland's career leader with 227 career caused turnovers.

Geremia led Cortland this spring with 62 goals and 74 assists for 136 points in 23 games, 22 as a starter. Her assist total and point total each rank second on Cortland's single-season charts, and she's only the fourth player in school history to reach the 100-point mark in a season. Geremia led NCAA Div. III players in points scored and ranked fourth nationally in assists.

Earlier this month, Geremia was recognized as the national Div. III Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Year by Synapse Sports.

Lavelle played in 23 games, 22 as a starter. She led the Red Dragons with 68 ground balls and 58 caused turnovers. She ranked 15th nationally in Div. III with 2.5 caused turnovers per game. Lavelle's play helped Cortland rank ninth nationally in scoring defense at 6.9 goals allowed per game.

Cortland finished the season 21-2 and advanced to the NCAA Div. III “final four” for the third straight year. The Red Dragons lost to Trinity (Conn.) in the national semifinals. Cortland also won its 15th straight State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) title and made its 15th consecutive NCAA Div. III Tournament showing.
