Stephanie Sladky was one of three Cortland seniors, along with Courtney Mangini and Meagan Phelan, honored prior to the meet. She tied for fifth on floor exercise with a season-high 9.575.
CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland women's gymnastics team was edged by five hundredths of a point in a 188.25-188.20 dual-meet loss to Brockport in the Red Dragons' final home competition of the season.
The teams were separated by less than a point in all four events. Brockport won vault by a tenth of a point, bars by two tenths of a point and floor exercise by less than half a point, while Cortland won balance beam by seven tenths of a point.
Junior
Elise Konikoff (Hamburg) finished first on balance beam with a career-high 9.80 and tied for first place on vault with a 9.65. Her beam score is tied for second in school history behind Kelly Caltagirone's school-record 9.825 in the 2000-01 season. Konikoff also was competing on vault for the first time this season.
Senior
Courtney Mangini (Dix Hills/Commack) won floor exercise with a 9.85, tied for third in school history behind her own school record 9.9 and Colleen Shanahan's 9.875 in 2003-04. Mangini finished fifth on uneven bars with a season-best 9.275 and was first among the two all-arounders at the meet with a 37.25.
Junior
Nicole Zangoglia (Old Bridge, NJ) finished second on uneven bars with a career-best 9.60. Sophomore
Emily Nagy (Merrimack, NH) placed third on balance beam with a 9.575 and sixth on uneven bars with a 9.20.
Sophomore
Meghan Goyden (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) finished third on vault (9.55), with sophomore
Marley Bender (Riverside, CA/Woodcrest Christian) and freshman
Courtney Von Braunsberg (West Islip) tied for fourth with scores of 9.50. Von Braunsberg also finished fourth on balance beam with a 9.525 in her first time officially competing in the event collegiately.
Senior
Stephanie Sladky (East Islip) tied for fifth on floor exercise with a season-high 9.575. Sophomore
Maddy Scozzie (Ashburn, VA/Broad Run) placed sixth on balance beam (9.45) and second in the all-around (36.55).
Brockport's Stephanie Schuler won uneven bars with a 9.65 and Amanda Carney tied for first on vault with Konikoff with a 9.65. Carney and Lexi King tied for second on floor (9.775) and Jennifer Sklenar was second on beam (9.675).
Prior to the meet, Cortland honored its three seniors – Mangini, Sladky and
Meagan Phelan (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley). Phelan finished seven on uneven bars with an 8.85.
Cortland will compete in a dual meet at Ithaca College on Saturday, March 1, at 11 a.m.
