CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cortland opened its 2014-15 women's gymnastics season with a 185.00-184.625 loss to visiting Brockport in a tight dual meet that featured no more than a six-tenths of a point difference in each of the four events.

Brockport won uneven bars by 0.60 points (46.00-45.40) and edged the Red Dragons by 0.025 on floor exercise. Cortland held slight advantages of 0.025 on vault and 0.225 on balance beam.

Sophomore Amanda Scanlon (Glastonbury, CT) won floor exercise with a career-high 9.70 and also placed second on balance beam (9.55) and sixth on uneven bars (9.175). Junior Meghan Goyden (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) finished second vault (9.425), fourth on balance beam (career-high 9.375) and fourth on floor exercise (9.55).

Senior Nicole Zangoglia (Old Bridge, NJ) took runner-up honors on uneven bars with a 9.45 and senior Elise Konikoff (Hamburg) tied for third on vault with a 9.40. Junior Maddy Scozzie (Ashburn, VA/Broad Run) was fifth on uneven bars (9.20) and sixth on balance beam (9.20). Also for the Red Dragons, freshman Bailey Gildemeyer (Liverpool/Cicero-North Syracuse) placed fifth on floor exercise (9.525) and sophomore Meghan Cobb (Hobe Sound, FL/Clark Advanced Learning Ctr.) was sixth on vault (9.25).

Brockport earned individual victories by Brittany Vasile on vault (9.45), Stephanie Schuler on uneven bars (9.50) and Amanda Rota on balance beam (9.625). Lily Jagodzinski finished second on floor exercise (9.625).

Cortland will host Div. II West Chester University on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 1 p.m.
