CORTLAND, N.Y. – Sophomore
Amanda Scanlon (Glastonbury, CT) and junior
Meghan Goyden (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) each posted event victories during the Cortland women's gymnastics team's 188.00-185.225 home dual-meet loss to Division II West Chester University.
Scanlon won balance beam with a 9.675 and finished fourth on uneven bars with a 9.275. Goyden tied for first on floor exercise with a 9.75 in addition to finishing fourth on vault with a 9.45.
Senior
Elise Konikoff (Hamburg) turned in a pair of top-three finishes. She was second on vault (9.50) and tied for third on balance beam (9.625). Also for the Red Dragons, senior
Nicole Zangoglia (Old Bridge, NJ) finished second on uneven bars (9.40) and junior
Maddy Scozzie (Ashburn, VA/Broad Run) was third on uneven bars (9.325).
For West Chester, Majesta Valentine won vault (9.625) and tied for first on floor exercise (9.75). Alyssa Hult won uneven bars (9.475) and Meghan Chan was runner-up on balance beam (9.65).
The teams were close through two events with West Chester leading 92.825-92.70. The Rams, however, outscored the Red Dragons by a point on beam (47.45-46.45) and by 1.65 on floor (47.725-46.075) to earn the win.
Cortland returns to action next Saturday, January 24, at 1 p.m. at Division I Cornell University.
