YORK, PA. – Three Cortland wrestlers earned top-six individual finishes at the 16-team York College New Standard Invitational. Senior Andrew Roden (Kings Park) was the runner-up at 125 pounds, junior Brendan Dent (Ronkonkoma/Connetquot) finished third at 165 pounds, and senior Colin Barber (Westfield, NJ) placed fifth at 184 pounds.

Cortland finished 10th out of 16 schools in the final team standings with 62.5 points, three ahead of York and five behind ninth-place Coast Guard. Ithaca won the team title with 149.5 points.

Roden finished 4-1 at 125 pounds. He opened with a 9-0 major decision, followed by 5-4 and 10-3 decisions. He pinned his opponent from Baldwin Wallace in 5:49 in the semifinals, but lost 6-1 to Brockport's Jonathan Haas in the title match.

Dent registered a 4-1 record at 165 pounds. He won his first two matches by a 16-1 technical fall and a 9-6 decision. After losing in the semifinals to Ithaca's Nick Velez, Dent won 10-5 versus Ferrum's Andrew Tolbert and defeated Coast Guard's Nick Remke in the third-place match, 13-8.

Barber posted a 4-2 record at 184 pounds. He began the day with a 7-2 victory before losing to the eventual champion, Ithaca's Jake Ashcraft, by a 2-1 decision. Barber followed that with two decisions and a 4-2 loss, and he ended the day with a 10-3 win over Daniel Moore of Stevens Institute in the fifth-place match.

Four other Red Dragons finished the day with 2-2 records: sophomore Tristan Broddus (Manlius/Fayetteville-Manlius) at 157 pounds; both freshman J.P. Puca (Huntington) and sophomore Zach Lugo (Deer Park) at 174 pounds; and senior Brenden Nunziata (Poughkeepsie/Arlington) at 197 pounds.

Cortland will compete at the North East Duals, hosted by SUNY Oneonta, on Saturday, December 10. The Red Dragons will face Johnson & Wales, Castleton and WPI, with the first match starting at 11 a.m.
