Four wrestlers will be competing for SUNY Cortland at the 2016 NCAA Div. III Championships March 11-12 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Fans can follow the action via live video, live stats and other web updates.
Bobby Dierna (Webster/Wayne) is seeded first at 157 pounds,
Lou Puca (Huntington) is seeded second at 174 pounds,
Joe Giaramita is seeded third at 197 pounds, and
Andrew Roden is unseeded at 125 pounds.
Dierna is 20-2 with nine pins, three technical falls and two major decisions. He's making his third trip to nationals; he's a two-time All-American with a national runner-up finish at 149 pounds in 2014 and a third-place finish at 149 in 2013.
Puca is making his third national appearance. He's a two-time All-American with a sixth-place national finish at 174 pounds in 2013 and a seventh-place finish in 2014. Puca is 30-2 this winter with nine pins, two technical falls and a major decision, and he has a career record of 117-28 to currently tie for third at Cortland in victories.
Giaramita is the defending national champion at 197 pounds. A three-time All-American, he placed eighth nationally at 285 pounds in 2012 and was sixth at 197 pounds in 2014 in addition to his first-place showing last year. Giaramita brings a 32-5 record with 10 pins, a technical fall and four majors into the NCAA Championships, and he's presently second at Cortland in career victories with a 125-25 mark. Paul LeBlanc is the school career victory leader with 128.
Roden is making his first trip to nationals. Roden transferred to Cortland after previous stops at Tompkins Cortland Community College and Johnson & Wales, and he missed all of last season due to injury.
