Former SUNY Cortland defensive end
Jake Ceresna has been invited by the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs to participate in a rookie mini-camp. The mini-camp will start on Saturday, May 7 and run through Monday, May 9.
Ceresna is the second Red Dragon player in as many seasons to earn an NFL rookie mini-camp invite. Gabe Ostrow was invited in 2015 by the Washington Redskins.
A native of New Fairfield, Conn., Ceresna played in 33 games in three seasons at Cortland from 2013-15 after transferring from Division II Southern Connecticut State. Last season he recorded 63 tackles, 38 solo, in 12 starts. He led the Red Dragons with 9.5 sacks and 18.5 total tackles for loss, was second on the squad with 17 quarterback hurries, and also finished with six pass breakups, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
In his three years at Cortland, Ceresna totaled 142 tackles, 81 solo, with 39.5 tackles for loss (14.5 sacks), 10 pass breakups, 42 quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. He was named D3football.com second team All-East and second team All-ECAC North as well as first team All-Empire 8 as a senior, and he participated in the National Bowl Senior All-Star Game. He recorded 11 tackles, including three sacks, in a win at St. John Fisher and nine stops in Cortland's NCAA Division III tournament first-round win over nationally 21st-ranked Salisbury. He also posted two sacks in an NCAA second-round loss at second-ranked Linfield. Cortland won the Empire 8 title and finished the season 9-3.
In his junior campaign, Ceresna was second team All-ECAC South and first team All-New Jersey Athletic Conference. In addition, he was chosen to the Northeast-10 All-Rookie team during his freshman season at Southern Connecticut.
