Cortland Gymnasts Win Home Tri-Meet With Season Bests Across the Board

Lindsay Riggs teid for first on balance beam with a career-best 9.525
CORTLAND, N.Y. - Cortland posted season-best scores on each event and the Red Dragons finished first in a home tri-meet with Springfield College and Rhode Island College. Cortland finished with a season-high 188.20, followed by Springfield at 187.00 and RIC at 175.025.

The Red Dragons posted their best efforts of the season on uneven bars (46.55), balance beam (46.50) and floor exercise (47.625), and matched their season high on vault (47.525).

Freshman Sidney McConnell (Winchester, CA/Vista Murrieta) won uneven bars with a career-best 9.575 and finished fourth on vault with a 9.475. Sophomore Rachel Filipski (Lancaster) was the vault winner with a 9.65 and placed seventh on floor with a 9.50.

Sophomore Lindsay Riggs (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA/Trabuco Hills) and junior McKenna Passalacqua (Whitesboro) shared top honors on balance beam with scores of 9.525. The effort was a career high for Riggs and a season best for Passalacqua, who also finished fourth on floor with a season-high 9.65.

Sophomore Lily Szafranski (Williamsville/Williamsville South) finished second on vault with a 9.575 and senior Meghan Cobb (Hobe Sound, FL/Clark Advanced Learning Ctr.) was second on bars with a season-high 9.525. Junior Bailey Gildemeyer (Liverpool/Cicero-North Syracuse) tied for second on floor (9.675) and finished sixth on vault (9.425), both with season-high performances.

Also for the Red Dragons, junior Arianna Turso (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) tied for third on bars with a season-high 9.40, while senior Michaela Stumpf (Williamsville/Williamsville South) finished seventh on bars (9.20) and tied for seventh on vault (9.40).

Springfield's Nicole Silva won floor exercise with a 9.75 and tied for third with teammate Marissa DeAngelo on beam with scores of 9.50. DeAngelo won the all-around with a 37.675. Cortland did not have any all-around competitors.

Cortland will travel to Ursinus College in Pennsylvania next Sunday for a 1 p.m. dual meet.
