Red Dragons Defeat Visiting Ithaca on Senior Day, 188.75-185.975

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland women's gymnastics team surpassed the 188-point mark for the third straight meet and the fourth time in its last five outings as the Red Dragons defeated visiting Ithaca College, 188.75-185.975, in their final home competition of the season.

Following the meet, Cortland honored its three seniors - Meghan Cobb (Hobe Sound, FL/Clark Advanced Learning Ctr.), Michaela Stumpf (Williamsville/Williamsville South) and Tara Sweeney (Staten Island/Notre Dame Academy). Each turned in a top-five finish to help the Red Dragons earn the victory. Cobb tied for second on uneven bars (9.45), Stumpf finished fourth on bars (9.30), and Sweeney placed fifth on balance beam (9.40).

Cortland earned six of the top seven spots on bars and matched its season-best score in the event at 46.925. In addition to Cobb's and Stumpf's performances, Sidney McConnell (Winchester, CA/Vista Murrieta) won the event with a career-high 9.5, Mia Dimartino (Charlotte, NC/South Mecklenburg) finished fifth (9.275), Arianna Turso (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) was sixth (9.25), and Rachel Filipski (Lancaster) placed seventh (9.175).

Filipski won vault with a 9.675 and finished second on floor exercise with a 9.675. McKenna Passalacqua (Whitesboro) won floor with a season-best 9.70, with Dimartino and Turso tying for fifth (9.45). Lily Szafranski (Williamsville/Williamsville South) finished second on vault (9.575) and Bailey Gildemeyer (Liverpool/Cicero-North Syracuse) was fifth (9.45).

Gildemeyer was Cortland's top performer on balance beam, tying for second place with a 9.55. Szafranski finished fourth with a 9.525, followed by Sweeney's fifth-place effort.

Ithaca's Kendra Balcerak won beam with a 9.70, with Paige Landes tying for second (9.55). Danielle Maffuid tied for second on bars (9.45).

Cortland will close its regular-season schedule next Saturday at Springfield College in a 1 p.m. meet that will also feature Rhode Island College and Division I Brown University.
