Red Dragons Fall at Division I Alaska Anchorage Despite Wins by Filipski, Schulz

Rachel Filipski won vault for the third time in three meets this season
ANCHORAGE, ALASKA - The Cortland women's gymnastics team completed its trip to the 49th state with a 190.975-183.20 dual-meet loss to Division I Alaska Anchorage. Junior Rachel Filipski (Lancaster) and freshman Emma Schulz (Poughquag/Arlington) won events for the Red Dragons, who were facing the Seawolves for the second time in three days.

Filipski earned top honors on vault with a 9.675. She has finished first in the event in each of Cortland's first three meets this season.

Schulz posted three top-four finishes, highlighted by her victory on balance beam with a 9.75. She also tied for second on floor exercise with a 9.70 and was fourth on vault with a 9.575.

Junior Lindsay Riggs (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA/Trabuco Hills) was Cortland's top performer on uneven bars in sixth place with a career-best score of 9.10. Sophomore Genna Orlik (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) finished sixth on beam with a career-high 9.525, and senior Arianna Turso (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) placed sixth on floor with a 9.35.

UAA's Isabelle Fox and Mackenzie Miller each won an event and competed in the all-around. Fox won floor with a 9.775 and was third in the other three events (9.625 on vault, 9.675 on bars, 9.65 on beam) to win the all-around (38.725). Miller won bars with a 9.825 and finished with an all-around score of 37.90. Also for the Seawolves, Kendra Miller was runner-up to Filipski on vault with a 9.65, Kaylin Mancari finished second behind Schulz on beam with a 9.70, and Hope Nelson was runner-up on bars with a 9.725.

Cortland will host Division I Cornell and Division II Southern Connecticut State in a tri-meet on Sunday, Jan. 21 at 11 a.m.
