Emma Schulz Ties School Beam Record in Home Meet vs. Cornell and S. Conn St.

CORTLAND, N.Y. - Freshman Emma Schulz (Poughquag/Arlington) tied the school record on balance beam to highlight Cortland's performances during the Red Dragons home season opener versus Division I Cornell University and Division II Southern Connecticut State University.

Cornell won the tri-meet with a score of 192.50, followed by Southern Connecticut with 189.825 and Cortland with a season-best 185.15. The Red Dragons also posted season-best scores on uneven bars (44.90), balance beam (47.175) and floor (47.525).

Schulz won balance beam with her school record-tying score of 9.825. She matched the record set by Kelly Caltagirone in 2000-01 and Elise Konikoff in 2014-15. Schulz also tied for first on floor exercise with a season-best 9.725.

Bailey Gildemeyer (Liverpool/Cicero-North Syracuse) tied for fourth place on floor exercise with a season-best 9.70. McKenna Passalacqua (Whitesboro) and Genna Orlik (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) finished eighth and ninth, respectively, on balance beam - Passalacqua with a 9.55 and Orlik with a 9.40.

Also for the Red Dragons, Sidney McConnell (Winchester, CA/Vista Murrieta) finished eighth on vault with a season-high 9.475, and Arianna Turso (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) placed 10th on uneven bars with a 9.20.

Cornell's Amy Shen won the all-around with a 38.875. She won bars (9.825) and tied for first on vault (9.725). Cornell's Maci Prescott tied Shen for first on vault (9.725), while Cornell's Claire Haklik and Kathleen Aberger matched Schulz for first on floor (9.725).

Cortland will travel to Division II West Chester University next Saturday, Jan. 27, for a 1 p.m. meet.
