Andrew Barnes and Jordynn Aiello receiving their Elite 20 Awards from SUNYAC Commissioner Tom DiCamillo
SUNY Cortland junior baseball pitcher
Andrew Barnes (Rochester, NH/Spaulding) and sophomore women's lacrosse defender
Jordynn Aiello (Centereach/Newfield) have earned State University of New York Athletic Conference's (SUNYAC) "Elite 20" awards for the 2018 spring season.
The awards are given to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the SUNYAC's 20 championships.
Barnes is an exercise science major with a 4.16 cumulative GPA (converted to 3.98 for purposes of the award), while Aiello is a psychology major with a 4.01 cumulative GPA (converted to 3.94).
The SUNYAC Elite 20 is modeled after the NCAA Elite 90 program. It recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the conference championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers.
The winner must be at least a sophomore academically and in their second year of eligibility at their current institution.
