Carol Merchant-Frank ranks among the best players in Cortland field hockey history. She is the school's career scoring leader and a two-time All-American who helped the Red Dragons win a pair of NCAA Division III titles.
* A native of Watertown, N.Y., she earned a Bachelor of Science of Education in Recreation Education from Cortland in 1994 and a Master of Education in Education Administration from Rivier College in 2005.
* During her four years as a field hockey forward at Cortland (1991-94) she recorded career totals of 74 goals and 34 assists for 182 total points. A three-time team captain, she set school records in all three categories, and still holds school marks in goals and points.
* A first team All-American as both a junior and senior. Also earned all-region honors twice and all-state awards four times.
* Chosen to the NCAA Division III Final Four All-Tournament Team in both 1993 and 1994 as Cortland won back-to-back national titles. Scored both of Cortland's goals in a 2-1 win over Trenton State in the 1994 national championship game. Team finished 24-1 in 1994, 22-1-1 in 1993, 18-5 in 1992 and 16-4-2 in 1991 with four NCAA tournament appearances and three state titles.
* Senior year honors included: SUNYAC's Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Year; Honda Sports Award nominee (one of only six field hockey players, and lone Division III representative); GTE Academic All-District; North-South Senior Game; and appearance in Sports Illustrated's "Faces in the Crowd" section.
* Her 29 goals scored in 1992 are a school single-season record, and her 19 assists in 1993 were a school record and currently rank second.
* Named to the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Silver Anniversary Team that recognized best players nationally from 1981-2005.
* Physical education teacher and intramural sports advisor for the last 18 years at West Running Brook Middle School in New Hampshire.
* Varsity field hockey coach for six years (2003-08) at Salem High School (N.H.). Led program to four New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association (NHIAA) Class L state titles (2003, 2005-07). Named Female High School Coach of the Year in 2008 and Field Hockey Coach of the Year in 2005 by the Eagle Tribune newspaper (Mass.).
* Numerous community service projects at West Running Brook Middle School include coordinating annual Thanksgiving Turkey Trot race and canned food drive to benefit a local food pantry.
