A member of the Class of 1937 at Cortland, Carter is the director of athletics and chairman of health and physical education at Sewanhaka High School in Floral Park. He came to Sewanhaka in 1942 after five years as director of athletics and physical education at East Rockaway High. In addition, Carter has coached basketball at the varsity level for 30 years, baseball for 10 and football for seven.
While a student at Cortland, Carter, one of the most versatile athletes in the College's history, played varsity football, basketball and baseball and was captain and most valuable player in each of the sports. He and his wife, Mary, have five children.
UPDATE: Carter passed away on Sept. 27, 2006.
