While attending Cortland, Jean played field hockey, basketball, volleyball and lacrosse intramural teams. Jean was also a member of the Aquatic Club, the Bowling Club and was on the W.A.A. Council. She earned a “national” rating in field hockey.

Jean was director of athletics at Miss Porter’s School in Farmington, Conn., an independent school of about 300 girls. She also coached field hockey and lacrosse.

Jean stated that “athletics began to influence my life in grade two. I was most fortunate in attending schools with strong P.E. programs – Baldwin, Long Island – so that I had the opportunity to learn and enjoy an unusually wide variety of sports. Through field hockey and lacrosse I was able to make friends all over the U.S. and around the world. There were no intercollegiate sports for women at Cortland in those years and I’m happy to see that the pendulum has swung back to allow them to compete again.”

UPDATE- March, 2015: Jean retired in 1984 and continues to stay active in schools through her volunteer work. She volunteers in the classroom as a Teaching Assistant and monitors open room for Computer Club. Jean volunteers to help with scoring at the Women's Golf Association Competition.

UPDATE:  Jean passed away on October 28, 2017, at age 90.
