Jud Smith was a four-year starter and three-time All-American for Cortland men's lacrosse squad that won two national titles, and he enjoyed a successful 30-year tenure with the global chemical producer Ashland, Inc.
* The Massapequa native earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Cortland in 1976 and a Master of Business Administration from Hofstra University in 1979.
* Four-year starter at attack for the men's lacrosse team from 1973-76. Team co-captain as a junior and senior.
* Three-time All-American - first team in 1975 and 1976 and second team in 1974. Selected to the North squad for the 1976 North-South Senior All-Star Game.
* Finished his career with 99 goals and 98 assists for 197 career points. Graduated as Cortland's career points leader.
* Helped team win two nationals titles. Registered 57 points (27 goals, 30 assists) in 1975 as Cortland finished 10-4, including three wins in the NCAA Division II playoffs. Recorded two goals and one assist versus Hobart in the national title game. Totaled 55 points (27 goals, 28 assists) in 1973 as the Red Dragons went 13-2 and won the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) College Division national crown. Finished with a combined 10 goals and seven assists in four playoff games.
* Member of 1974 squad that finished 8-3 and advanced to the NCAA Division II semifinals and the 1976 team that earned an NCAA Division II playoff berth before losing in the NCAA Division II quarterfinals.
* Voted as the 1976 Beta Sports King Award recipient by the Cortland student body for highest excellence in Athletics.
* Head coach of Cortland's junior varsity men's lacrosse team in 1977, followed by a stint as boys' lacrosse assistant coach at Garden City High School from 1978-79.
* Employee and executive of Ashland, Inc. - a global manufacturer and distributor of specialty chemicals - from 1979-2009. Served as a vice president/general manager from 2000-09 and business director from 1996-99, in addition to roles as a sales representative, district manager and director of sales. Received the corporation's highest honor, the Chairman's Award, in 2005, and earned multiple Salesman of the Year and District Manager of the Year awards.
* Founding Principal of the Friends of Cortland Lacrosse Endowed Fund in 2010 and a member of the Cortland College Foundation Board from 2009-15.
* Organizing Principal and competitor for the Cortland 60-Plus "Red Draginz" men's lacrosse alumni team at the 2017 Lake Placid Summer Classic.
