Mark Koetzner was a three-time All-America men's lacrosse attackman who remains one of the top scorers in school history. He served for 23 years in the New York City Fire Department before retiring in 2010. He passed away unexpectedly in January 2014.
* A native of Massapequa, N.Y., he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Cortland in 1981.
* Three-time All-America men's lacrosse attackman - first team in 1981, second team in 1980, and honorable mention in 1978. Earned the Jack Trumbull Memorial Award as the top Division III attackman nationally in 1981, and was chosen for the North-South Senior All-Star Game.
* Finished his career with 107 goals and 118 assists for 225 total points. Graduated as the school leader in points and assists and fifth in goals, and still ranks third at Cortland in assists and sixth in points.
* Scored 36 goals and registered 59 assists for 95 points during his senior year. The 59 assists are still the best single-season total in school history, and the 95 points were a school record at the time and are currently ranked second. Also totaled 29 goals and 32 assists in 1980 and 34 goals and 26 assists in 1978.
* Still holds the school single-game record for points in a game (14) in a win over Oswego in 1978.
* Team advanced to the NCAA Division III finals in both 1980 and 1981, the first two years the championship was held on the Division III level. Also helped the Red Dragons advance to the semifinals of the 1978 NCAA Division II playoffs. Cortland won SUNYAC titles in each of those three seasons.
* Scored 23 points in three NCAA tournament games in 1981 (five goals, five assists vs. Ohio Wesleyan; four goals, three assists vs. Salisbury; six assists vs. Hobart). The 23 points stood as a Division III tournament record until 1999 and is tied for the highest ever in a three-round tournament format.
* Joined the New York City Fire Department in 1988 and was assigned to Ladder 143 truck in Jamaica, Queens. Was a first responder at the World Trade Center on 9/11. Served 23 years before retiring due to health issues in 2010.
* Actively involved with community lacrosse coaching in Massapequa, and also became a lacrosse official on the high school level.
* Inducted into the Long Island Metro Lacrosse Foundation Hall of Fame in 2016.
