Earlier, in the autumn of 1987, the William Smith field hockey team also earned second place at the NCAA Div. III Championships.
Genovese, the 1988 U.S. Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Association National "Coach of the Year," has produced numerous field hockey and lacrosse All-Americans since starting at William Smith immediately after graduation from Cortland in 1971.
