As a back in football, he was named to the 1940 All-Opponent team by Alfred University and earned honorable mention in the Associated Press Upstate N.Y. All-Star Team.

Lockwood retired in July 1977 after serving the Union Free School District in Ossining for 30 years. He was principal of the Washington Elementary School from 1955 to 1970 and was principal at Brookside Elementary School when he retired. He also has served as acting director of elementary education. Active in many professional organizations, Lockwood twice served as president of the Ossining Association of Administrators and Supervisors and has served in all offices of the Westchester County Elementary School Principal's Association.

When asked "how have athletics affected your life?" Lockwood responded, "As a participant in a team sport, I learned that in life, as in the game, each of us is dependent upon many others to find success and fulfillment." Lockwood, when also asked to describe his "biggest athletic thrill" said, "In the 1939 game against the American University football team that Cortland won 3-2, first watching Merlin Hathaway's drop kick cross the bar for a field goal and secondly, the late in the 4th quarter goal-line stand that saved the game."

UPDATE: Lockwood passed away on Aug. 1, 1986 (date not confirmed).
