Zack Whiting begins his first season on the Cortland coaching staff in 2011-12. A native of Chico, Calif., he served as the head coach of the Chico Tarheels AAU team in 2011 and played professionally in Germany in the Bundesliga First Division for three years from 2007-10.
Whiting graduated from Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 2007. A communications major, Whiting was a standout point guard for the Division II Silverswords. He played four seasons, three as a starter, and as a senior earned second-team All-America honors while leading all NCAA divisions with 10.7 assists per game.
Whiting was a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award, given annually to the nation's top point guard, and was also named the 2006-07 Pacific West Conference Player of the Year.
A 2002 graduate of Pleasant Valley High School in Chico, Whiting was a sectional MVP and all-league basketball player. He currently resides in Cortland with his wife, Ashley, who is the Red Dragons' assistant women's tennis coach and a former volleyball player at Chaminade.
