Cortland junior guard
Brian Manning (Elmira/Southside) has been selected as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending January 29.
Manning averaged 18 points per game in three Cortland road victories. He scored a career-high 28 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the field (4-of-7 three-pointers) to account for nearly half of the Red Dragons' points in a 58-50 win at Potsdam. He followed that the next day with 16 points in a 65-58 victory at Plattsburgh.
Despite not starting any games this year, Manning ranks second on the Red Dragon squad this winter with 12.4 points per game and leads the team with 5.3 rebounds per game and 38 made three-pointers and 26 steals. He's shooting 76 percent from the foul line (19-of-25), nearly 50 percent from the field (89-of-179) and 38 percent from three-point range (38-of-99).
Cortland is currently 14-5 overall and 9-3 in the SUNYAC. The Red Dragons, second in the SUNAYC, will host nationally 22nd-ranked and league leader Oswego on Saturday, Feb. 4, at 4 p.m.
