Deral Brown enters his second season on the Cortland wrestling staff in 2017-18. Prior to Cortland, Brown served as an assistant coach in 2013-14 and as the head coach in 2014-15 at Fort Dorchester High School in South Carolina.
While at Fort Dorchester, Brown led the program to a first-place finish at the Traditional NHSCA State Championships. He coached six state placers, one state champion and one NHSCA Junior All-American and was named the South Carolina 4A Coach of the Year.
Brown earned a bachelor’s degree in music education from Newberry College, where he was a five-year member of the wrestling team. He posted the second-most wins in program history and holds the school record for major decisions. A two-time national qualifier, Brown earned All-America honors as a senior with a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Div. II Championships.
A native of Elgin, S.C., Brown was a four-time state placer and three-time state champion in wrestling at Lugoff-Elgin High School. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree in sport management at the College.
