Jeannette Mosher enters her 12th season as head coach of SUNY Cortland’s women’s basketball program in 2009-10. Cortland’s career win leader, Mosher has an impressive record of 254-59 (.812) in 11 seasons with the Red Dragons, including eight years with at least 23 victories along with a pair of 19-win campaigns.
In 2008-09, she led Cortland to a 24-5 record, the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) regular-season title and the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament. She was named the SUNYAC Coach of the Year for the fifth time. Her 2007-08 squad finished 24-6, placed second in the SUNYAC tournament and won the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Upstate New York title.
In 2006-07, the Red Dragons posted a 26-3 record, won both the SUNYAC regular-season and tournament titles and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament. Mosher received SUNYAC Coach of the Year honors that year, as well as in the 2005-06 season when Cortland finished 23-5, won the SUNYAC regular-season title and earned an at-large berth into the NCAA Division III tournament.
In the 2003-04 season, Mosher also was named the SUNYAC Coach of the Year after leading the Red Dragons to a 25-5 record, the league title and the NCAA Division III second round. In 2004-05, her squad finished 19-7 and tied for third at the SUNYAC tournament.
In all, Mosher has led Cortland to four SUNYAC tournament titles and seven NCAA playoff showings. In 2000-01, the Red Dragons finished with a school-best 27-3 record, won the SUNYAC regular-season crown and made the program’s first NCAA “Sweet 16” appearance since 1992. Cortland was 26-2 in 1999-2000 and 25-3 in 1998-99. In both of those seasons, the Red Dragons won the SUNYAC regular-season and tournament titles and received a bye into the second round of the NCAA playoffs. Mosher shared SUNYAC Coach of the Year honors in the 1999-2000 season.
Mosher led the Red Dragons to a 19-8 record in 2001-02 and a 16-12 mark in 2002-03. The Red Dragons advanced to the SUNYAC tournament championship game six straight years from 1999-2004 and nine times in her 11 seasons.
Mosher was named the Basketball Coaches Association of New York (BCANY) Coach of the Year in 2000, 2001, 2004 and 2007. She is currently a member of the BCANY’s Board of Directors.
Prior to her arrival at Cortland, Mosher served as the head women’s basketball coach at Alfred University for four seasons. She led the Saxons to a 16-9 mark in 1996-97, the second-best record in the program’s history and its first winning season in nine years. The team qualified for the New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association playoffs. She also served as Alfred’s Senior Women’s Administrator for two years.
Mosher was an assistant coach at Northern Michigan University for four years prior to Alfred. During that stretch, the Wildcats had a combined 85-31 record and made two trips to the NCAA Division II playoffs. Mosher also served as a graduate assistant coach at Shippensburg (Pa.) University.
A 1990 alumna of St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Ind., Mosher graduated as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,280 points. As a senior she was a first team All-American and Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Player of the Year as she led the Pumas to a 28-2 record and the NCAA Division II “Elite Eight.” She also led the team to 27-4 marks and the NCAA playoffs in both her sophomore and junior seasons. She was inducted into the GLVC Hall of Fame in May 2004.
The Lafayette, Ind., native scored at least 50 points on two occasions, including a school and GLVC record 51 points along with 22 assists against Lewis University as a senior. A member of St. Joseph’s Athletic Hall of Fame, Mosher ranked 19th on the NCAA Division II career scoring chart entering the 2008-09 season.
Mosher (formerly Jeannette Yeoman) and her husband, Calvin, a 1981 SUNY Cortland graduate, reside in Cortland.
