Will Hunter

Former NFL and Syracuse University defensive back Will Hunter joins the Cortland coaching staff in 2010. Hunter previously served as the defensive coordinator at Onondaga Central High School and was the Assistant Head Coach for the Cortland Bulldogs, a semi-pro team.

A native of Chester, Pa., Hunter played at Syracuse from 1998-2002 as a defensive back and on every special teams unit. He recorded career totals of 156 tackles and three interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown. He was a team captain as a senior and earned the Coach Mac Award for intensity, focus, effort and attitude. Hunter participated for Team USA in the 2003 Gridiron Classic.

As a professional, Hunter played briefly with the New York Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Giants before playing three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. His NFL stats include 38 tackles and a blocked field goal. He also registered 39 tackles, 11 pass deflections and an interception while playing in NFL Europe and was a first-team All-NFLE selection.

Hunter was a first-team all-state player at Chester High School and also was a four-year basketball letterwinner. He and wife, Lynee, are the parents of twin sons Dairien and William, Jr.
