Cortland Captures Second Straight SUNYAC Team Crown Behind Wager's Individual Title

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Cortland men's cross country team, ranked sixth nationally in Division III, placed seven runners in the top 13 as it won the 2007 SUNYAC Championships on Saturday afternoon. The title is the Red Dragons' second in a row and 12th overall.

Cortland finished the championship meet with 18 points, followed by Geneseo (41), Oneonta (110), Brockport (127), Plattsburgh (144), Fredonia (146), Oswego (181), Buffalo St. (230), SUNYIT (266), New Paltz (289) and host Potsdam (342).

Sophomore Justin Wager (Guilderland) won the 8,000-meter race with a time of 25:50.8 to earn SUNYAC Cross Country Hall of Fame Honors. Wager is the first conference individual champion for the Red Dragons since Mike Heitzenrater in 1999. Junior Shamus Nally (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) finished second in the closest of margins with a time of 25:50.9.

Two other Red Dragons earned Hall of Fame honors with top-five finishes. Sophomore Seth DuBois (Altamont/Guilderland) placed third in 25:51.3, and junior Josh Henry (Truxton/Homer) finished fourth in 25:52.0. Sophomore Jerry Greenlaw (Warwick/Warwick Valley), who rounded out Cortland scorers, crossed the finish line in eighth place with a time of 26:09.6.

Nally and Greenlaw earned induction into the Hall of Fame in 2005 and 2006, respectively. Wager, Nally, DuBois and Henry each earned first team All-SUNYAC honors, and Greenlaw, along with sophomore Kyle O'Brien (Monroe-Monroe-Woodbury) (10th in 26:16.6) and freshman Stephen Scrafford (Cooperstown) (13th in 26:32.7) earned second team all-conference honors. Cortland head coach Matt Moran was named the SUNYAC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
