NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Cortland women's swimming and diving team opened the season with a second-place finish out of three teams at the New York University Invitational. NYU finished with 1,263.50 points, followed by Cortland at 960.50 and Stevens at 587. The Red Dragons had two event winners. Sophomore
Taylor Houseman (Wellsville) won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.56) and freshman
Jennifer Thorpe (Lakewood/Southwestern) won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:30.95).
Senior
Amy Jones (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) finished second in both 1-meter diving (238.20 points) and 3-meter diving (241.34 points). Freshman
Stephenie Bintz (Altamont/Guilderland) was second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:18.20) and sophomore
Katie Molzan (Plattsburgh/Peru) was runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle (56.53).
Also earning second-place finishes were the 400-yard medley relay of sophomore
Krista Bergquist (West Islip), Houseman, freshman Elizabeth Neddo (Syracuse/Fowler) and Molzan in 4:15.97 and the 200-yard medley relay of Bergquist, Houseman, Neddo and sophomore
Kristin Barnoski (Stanley/Marcus Whitman) in 1:55.74.
