NORTHFIELD, MINN. – The nationally fourth-ranked Cortland men's cross country team placed third out of 32 teams at the NCAA Division III Championships Saturday afternoon at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. The showing is Cortland's best in school history, one place better than the Red Dragons' fourth-place finish last season. New York University won the team title with 128 points, followed by Haverford with 150 points and Cortland with 158 points. Calvin (214 points) and Wisconsin-La Crosse (221 points) rounded out the top five.
The Red Dragons had two runners earn All-America honors. Junior
Shamus Nally (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) placed eighth in a field of 280 runners, covering the 8,000-meter course in 24:47. Sophomore
Seth DuBois (Altamont/Guilderland) finished 19th in 25:05. The top 35 runners are All-Americans. Wisconsin-Platteville's Tyler Sigl won the race in 24:24.
Sophomore
Justin Wager (Guilderland) missed All-America honors by two spots and four seconds. He finished 37th in 25:15. Junior
Josh Henry (Truxton/Homer) was 45th overall in 25:21 and sophomore
Jerry Greenlaw (Warwick/Warwick Valley) finished 104th in 25:50.
Rounding out Cortland's entries were sophomore
Kyle O'Brien (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) in 228th place (26:38) and sophomore
Travis DeRusso (East Berne/Berne-Knox-Westerlo) in 242nd place (26:53).
