DeRusso, Viglione Earn All-State Honors at NYSCTC Championships

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Cortland placed fourth out of 15 schools at the New York State Collegiate Track Conference (NYSCTC)  Cross Country Championships. The race was hosted by RPI at the Saratoga Spa State Park.

Geneseo won the title with 56 points, edging St. Lawrence (68) and RIT (73). Cortland rested a number of its top runners and finished with a score of 113 points. Hamilton was fifth at 157.

Two Red Dragons earned all-state honors. Sophomore Travis DeRusso (East Berne/Berne-Knox-Westerlo) made the second team with a 13th-place finish of 25:53 over 8,000 meters and junior Niko Viglione (Purdys/Somers) was honorable mention with a 15th-place time of 25:57 in the 144-runner field. The NYSCTC awards first-team honors to the 1-7 finishers, second team to spots 8-14 and honorable mention to places 15-21.

Junior Kevin Olejar (Lewiston/Lewiston-Porter) finished 22nd in 26:09 and freshman Reid McGrath (Pawling) was 23rd in 26:12. Freshman Dylan Jung (Sayville) rounded out the Red Dragons' top five with a 44th-place time of 26:50.
