Siddeeq Sprints to NCAA Berth, Bieringer Breaks School 300-Meter Record at Cornell Relays

ITHACA, N.Y. – Senior Amaan Siddeeq (Goshen) automatically qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships with his 60-meter dash time and senior Matt Bieringer (Center Moriches) set a new school record in the 300-meter dash as Cortland opened its season at the non-team scoring Cornell Relays.

Siddeeq was second overall, and the top collegiate entry, in the 60 meters with his time of 6.78 seconds. The effort guarantees him a spot in the 55-meter dash at the indoor national meet March 14-15 at Ohio Northern. Siddeeq also temporarily held the school record in the 300 meters with his eventual sixth-place time of 35.61 seconds. Bieringer, however, was clocked at 35.39 seconds in the following heat and finished fourth. The previous school mark of 35.64 seconds was set by Nick Wetherby in 2004.

Three Red Dragons qualified for the ECAC Division III Championships with their performances. Junior Jake Zanetti (Saratoga Springs) finished fourth in the pole vault (15' 3"), freshman Nick Wilson (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) placed fifth in the high jump (6' 4.25") and senior Kevin Ma (Cornwall) was seventh in the 60-meter dash (7.06).

The combination of freshman Stephen Scrafford (Cooperstown), sophomore Mike Burke (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown), sophomore Alex Kalinkos (Flushing/St. Francis Prep) and junior Clark Holdsworth (Vestal) finished second in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:44.08. Junior Kevin Olejar (Lewiston/Lewiston-Porter) and senior James Barracca (Center Moriches/Sachem North) finished third (9:01.50) and fourth (9:01.89), respectively, in the 3,000 meters, while sophomore Joe Keleher (Newfane) and Wilson were fourth (8.68, 8.67 in prelims) and fifth (8.70), respectively, in the 60-meter hurdles.

Other Cortland top-10 individual finishers included senior Adam Dembrow's (Akron) in the 5,000 meters (5th place, 17:15.44), senior J.J. Riese (Central Square/Paul V. Moore) in the 300 meters (7th place, 35.83), freshman Will Razzano (Riverhead) in the triple jump (9th place, 42' 1.25") and junior Vinny Krutchick (Suffern) in the shot put (10th place, 43' 7").
