ONEONTA, N.Y. – The nationally ranked Cortland women's cross country team opened the season with a first-place finish at the Oneonta Airfield Invitational. Cortland's men, ranked fourth nationally in Division III, finished the meet with 23 points. SUNY Delhi was second with 69 points, with Oneonta (89), Le Moyne (97) and Ithaca (108) rounding out the top five in the eight-team meet.
Nine Cortland runners finished in the top 14 as the Red Dragons easily won with 24 points. Cortland is tied for 35th in the initial Division III poll of the season. Oneonta was the runner-up at the meet with 76 points, followed by Le Moyne (98), Ithaca (121) and Delhi (132) in the top five of the nine-team field.
Junior
Brittany Brunetto (Fishkill/Beacon) and sophomore
Lisa Holt (Phoenix/John C. Birdlebough) were second and third, respectively, in the 77-runner field. Brunetto covered the 4,500-meter course in 17:38 and Holt was clocked at 17:40.
Sophomore
Kate Ramsbotham (West Islip) finished fifth (17:48), followed by junior
Erin McGrath (Oakdale/Connetquot) in sixth (17:53). Freshman
Jess Glass (Commack) and junior Elizabeth Wolff (Syracuse/Henninger) also posted top-10 finishes – Glass was eighth in 18:20 and Wolff ninth in 18:22. In addition, freshman
Caitlin Sullivan (Elmira Heights/Thomas A. Edison) finished 11th (18:25), sophomore
Nicole Staudt (Sound Beach/Rocky Point) was 13th (18:36) and sophomore
Lauren Phillips (Batavia) crossed the line 14th (18:40).
