BETHLEHEM, PA. – The SUNY Cortland men's cross country team, ranked fourth nationally in Division III, finished ninth overall and was the top Division III finisher in a field of 41 teams at the Lehigh University Paul Short Invitational “Brown” division race.
Cortland scored 294 points, seven points better than 10th place and nationally 11th-ranked Haverford. The top eight finishers were Division I schools, led by Villanova (50), Syracuse (84) and Princeton (92). Cortland placed ahead of 25 Division I teams, including Massachusetts, Harvard, Texas Tech, Bucknell and Pittsburgh, along with nationally ranked Division III schools College of New Jersey (#7), Allegheny (#8), Carnegie Mellon (#15) and Trinity College (#24).
Junior
Shamus Nally (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) finished 30th among 270 runners with a time of 24:51 over 8,000 meters. He was the third-best Division III finisher. Sophomore
Seth DuBois (Altamont/Guilderland) finished 37th (24:56), sophomore
Justin Wager (Guilderland) was 45th (25:08) and junior
Josh Henry (Truxton/Homer) placed 56th (25:26).
Rounding out the Red Dragon entries were sophomore
Kyle O'Brien (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) in 126th place (26:05), sophomore
Jerry Greenlaw (Warwick/Warwick Valley) in 135th place (26:10) and junior
Kevin Olejar (Lewiston/Lewiston-Porter) in 180th place (26:32). Cortland also had five runners compete in the 8,000-meter JV race, led by sophomore
Travis DeRusso's (East Berne/Berne-Knox-Westerlo) 76th place finish (26:59).
Cortland will be sending some runners to the Utica College Invitational on Saturday.
