CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Sophomore Lauren Eichenberger (Suffern) scored her first two goals of the season to lead the nationally fourth-ranked Cortland field hockey team to a 4-0 victory over Rochester Wednesday afternoon at the Stadium Complex White Field. With the win, the Red Dragons improved to 2-1 on the season, while the Yellowjackets fell to 1-1.

Juniors Kayla Chambers (Craryville/Taconic Hills) and Katie Johnson (Elma/Iroquois Central) each contributed a goal and an assist for Cortland, and sophomore Christine McCabe (Greene) recorded an assist. Junior goalie Stacy Billings (Marathon) made one save in the first half, playing the first 65 minutes of the game before giving way to sophomore Morgan Burk (Miller Place), who did not need to stop a shot in the final five minutes.

For the Yellowjackets, senior Alicia Citro (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough) made two defensive saves, one in each half, and senior goalie Rachel Cahan (Evanston, IL/North Shore Country Day) registered 10 saves. Cahan had stopped 20 and 18 shots versus the Red Dragons during the 2006 and 2005 games, respectively.

Chambers put the Red Dragons on the scoreboard just two minutes, 17 seconds into the game when she knocked in her own rebound for her team-high sixth goal of the season. At 28:32 of the opening half, Eichenberger notched her first of the game. After beating two defenders in the midfield, McCabe sent a long pass down the left side to a wide-open Eichenberger. She collected the ball and beat Cahan with a low shot.

Early in the second half, Johnson collected her first goal of the game off a Chambers assist as she knocked a pass cleanly out of the air and in the goal. Johnson then set up Eichenbergers second score at 56:27. Johnson sent a pass from the right side into the arc where Eichenberger deflected a shot inside the left post.

Cortland outshot Rochester, 20-3, in the game, including 11-0 in the second half, and held a 13-3 advantage in penalty corners.
