CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland men's swimming and diving team was edged by the University of Rochester by one point, 149.5-148.5, in a dual meet at Holsten Pool. The Red Dragons are now 2-2 in dual action this winter. Junior Drew Hilker (Ithaca), senior Brett Humphreys (Amsterdam) and senior Kevin Stuttle (Dryden) each posted a pair of individual victories in the setback.
Hilker won the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.11) and 50-yard freestyle (22.65) and Humphreys earned top honors in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.79) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:17.04). Stuttle was the top diver of the day with scores of 271.58 points on the one-meter board and 254.10 points on the three-meter board.
Sophomore Jeff Moessinger (Buffalo/Iroquois) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.06), and the quartet of junior Roy Culkin (Holtsville/Sachem East), Humphreys, Moessinger and Hilker won the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay (1:41.54).
Cortland trailed by six points entering the final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay. The Red Dragons earned 11 points with a victory by senior Jeremy Cuebas (Brentwood), freshman Matt Young (Richmondville/Schoharie), sophomore Caleb VanSickle (Stanley/Marcus Whitman) and Hilker in 3:18.89. Rochester, however, earned four points for second place and two points for third place to win the meet
