TROY, N.Y. – The Cortland men's swimming and diving team finished second out of seven teams at the Kumpf Invitational, hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Ithaca College won the meet with 565 points, followed by the Red Dragons (545) and host RPI (406). Rounding out the standings were New Paltz (351), Oneonta (211), Clarkson (140) and Skidmore (65).
The invitational was also scored as dual meets between each of the competing schools. Despite losing to Ithaca in the invitational scoring, the Red Dragons actually defeated the Bombers in dual scoring, 123-120, and finished with a 6-0 record. Cortland now has an 8-2 dual-meet record this season.
Senior
Kevin Stuttle (Dryden) finished first in both diving events to lead the Red Dragons. He scored 282.30 points on the one-meter board and 255.70 points on the three-meter board. Sophomore
Jeff Moessinger (Buffalo/Iroquois) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.71), senior
Brett Humphreys (Amsterdam) captured the 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.97) and the combination of junior
Roy Culkin (Holtsville/Sachem East), Humphreys, Moessinger and senior
Jeremy Cuebas (Brentwood) won the 400-yard medley relay (3:42.13).
Humphreys also placed second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:04.13), while junior
David Dow (Port St. Lucie, FL/Glastonbury (CT)) was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:29.03) and third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:07.66). Junior
Drew Hilker (Ithaca) was the runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.90) and the 400-yard freestyle relay of sophomore
Caleb VanSickle (Stanley/Marcus Whitman), Cuebas, freshman
Matt Young (Richmondville/Schoharie) and Hilker finished second in 3:19.85.
Cuebas turned in a third-place effort in the 100-yard freestyle (50.85), Young was fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (22.89) and the foursome of freshman

Mike Poffenbarger (Owego/Owego Free Academy), freshman
Bill DeLoe (Wappingers Falls/John Jay) and Young finished fourth in the 400-yard medley relay (3:49.77).
Freshman
Mihali Tzetzis (Syracuse/Jamesville-DeWitt) placed fourth in both one-meter (187.55 points) and three-meter (187.25 points) diving. Other Cortland top-five finishes were fifth-place showings by VanSickle in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:43.75) and the quartet of Culkin, senior
