CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior
Drew Hilker (Ithaca) won three individual events and swam on a winning relay as Cortland defeated Oswego, 154-146, in a men's swimming and diving dual meet. The Red Dragons improved their record to 9-2 with the win.
Hilker won the 50-yard freestyle (22.24), 100-yard freestyle (48.84) and 100-yard butterfly (54.61). He also teamed with freshman
Matt Young (Richmondville/Schoharie), freshman
James McCabe (North Massapequa/Farmingdale) and senior
Jeremy Cuebas (Brentwood) to turn in the best time in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:30.40), albeit as an exhibition entry since Cortland had already clinched the team win.
Other winners for the Red Dragons included freshman
Luis Welch (Avon) in the 100-yard backstroke (58.24), senior
Brett Humphreys (Amsterdam) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.86), junior
Roy Culkin (Holtsville/Sachem East) in the 200-yard backstroke (2:09.51) and freshman Daniel Caputo (Staten Island/Curtis) in the 400-yard individual medley (4:35.32). The combination of Welch, Humphreys, sophomore
Jeff Moessinger (Buffalo/Iroquois) and McCabe also won the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay (1:42.37).
