Balanced Attack Leads Cortland to Decisive Victory vs. Oswego, 172-125

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland women's swimming and diving team improved to 5-0 in dual meets with a 172-125 victory over visiting Oswego. Three swimmers each posted two individual victories. Sophomore Samantha Buckley (Holbrook/Sachem North) won both the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:07.39) and 500-yard freestyle (5:26.29) and sophomore Krista Bergquist (West Islip) touched the wall first in both the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.61) and 100-yard butterfly (1:02.76). Senior Sarah O'Loughlin (Pleasantville) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:13.81) and was the fastest swimmer as an exhibition entry in the 400-yard individual medley (4:52.08).

Five other Red Dragons each won an individual event. Junior Lauren Friedlander (Woodbury/Syosset) won the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.88) and sophomore Taylor Houseman (Wellsville) captured the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.60). Sophomore Kristin Barnoski (Stanley/Marcus Whitman) won the 50-yard freestyle (25.39), sophomore Katie Molzan (Plattsburgh/Peru) finished first in the 100-yard freestyle (56.48) and freshman Jennifer Thorpe (Lakewood/Southwestern) took top honors in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:29.31).

Cortland also had the fastest times in both relays. Bergquist, Houseman, O'Loughlin and Barnoski won the 200-yard medley relay (1:54.11) and Molzan, Bergquist, Friedlander and Barnoski won the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:42.69) as an exhibition entry.
