PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Senior Khylan Hunt (Saratoga Springs) scored 17 points, including a three-pointer with one minute, 40 seconds remaining that broke the final tie of the game, as nationally 21st-ranked Plattsburgh edged Cortland, 74-69. The Cardinals improved to 12-2 overall and are off to their first 6-0 SUNYAC start since the 1964-65 season. Cortland had a six-game winning streak snapped and is now 11-3 overall and 4-1 in league play.

Mike Lewis (Central Square) led Cortland with a career-high 25 points along with eight rebounds. He made 12-of-17 shots from the field. Sophomore
Will Coston (Kerhonkson/Rondout Valley) made 5-of-6 three-pointers and matched his career high of 19 points for the second straight game. Sophomore
Paul Oliver (Phoenix/John C. Birdlebough) added 10 points, junior
Juan Miolan (Troy) registered six rebounds and a career-high six assists and senior
Derrick Fish (Locust Valley) tied his career high with six assists.
Hunt was one of four double-figure scorers for Plattsburgh. Senior Anthony Williams (Brooklyn) finished with 15 points, freshman Errol Daniyan (Coram/Longwood) tallied 13 points and senior Ricky Rider (West Coxsackie/Ravena) scored 11 points, including 3-of-4 three-point shooting. Senior Travis Gorham (Bridgeport, CT) turned in a solid all-around effort with nine points, 11 rebounds and seven assists.
The teams were tied 10 times, six in the second half. Lewis created the final deadlock at 65-65 with a jumper at the 2:03 mark. Plattsburgh missed a layup on its next possession, but Hunt controlled the offensive rebound and hit a three-pointer about 10 seconds later to give Plattsburgh the lead for good.
Cortland missed on its next possession and Gorham made two foul shots with 1:06 left to push Plattsburgh's lead to five. Lewis made one free throw with 27 seconds remaining, but Williams answered with two foul shots a second later to give the hosts a 72-66 lead. After the teams traded possessions, Coston hit a three-pointer with three seconds left to pull the Red Dragons within three. Following a timeout and a foul, Williams made two foul shots with one second remaining to complete the scoring.
Plattsburgh took an early 14-6 lead, but Cortland came back and led by as much as seven points on three occasions in the first half. A Chris Ruiz (Bronx/St. Agnes) three-pointer with 1:06 left drew Plattsburgh within 35-31 at halftime.
Cortland held a six-point lead at 52-46 with 11:25 left after a
Carson Niehoff (West Islip) layup, but the Cardinals scored the next six points, tying the game at 52-52 on a Daniyan layup with 9:02 left. Neither team led by more than three after that until Gorham's free throws at the 1:06 mark.
