ITHACA, N.Y. – Senior
Amaan Siddeeq (Goshen) won both the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes to highlight Cortland's performances at the Upstate Challenge, hosted by Cornell Univeristy. The meet featured competitors from Division I schools Cornell, Syracuse, Binghamton, Colgate and Buffalo, along with Division III Ithaca.
Siddeeq's winning time of 6.83 seconds in the 60-meter dash is an automatic qualifier for the 55-meter dash at the NCAA Division III Championships. Siddeeq, however, has already automatically qualified for nationals with his time of 6.78 seconds at the Cornell Relays in December. Siddeeq also won the 200-meter dash in an ECAC-qualifying time of 22.08 seconds. The 200 meters is not contested at the NCAA indoor championships.
Senior
Kevin Ma (Cornwall) finished third in the 60-meter dash (6.98) and senior
Matt Bieringer (Center Moriches) was third in the 200 meters (22.66), both with ECAC qualifying times. Junior
Jake Zanetti (Saratoga Springs) finished fourth in the pole vault (14' 9”), sophomore
Joe Keleher (Newfane) finished fourth n the 60-meter hurdles (8.58), freshman
Nick Wilson (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) placed fifth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.69, 8.64 in prelims) and eighth in the high jump (6' 4.25”), all with ECAC-qualifying efforts.
Two other Red Dragons also individually reached ECAC standards. Sophomore
Drew Hilker (Ithaca), who also is competing this winter for Cortland's men's swimming and diving team, finished sixth in the high jump. He matched Wilson's height of 6' 4.25”, but placed higher than Wilson due to fewer misses. Freshman
Will Razzano (Riverhead) turned in a ninth-place distance of 43' 3.25” in the triple jump. Sophomore
Alex Kalinkos (Flushing/St. Francis Prep) also earned a top-10 finish with a ninth-place time of 1:08.72 in the 500 meters, missing ECAC qualifying by less than half a second.
