ITHACA, N.Y. – Seven Red Dragons placed in the top 10 of their events at the Upstate Challenge, hosted by Cornell University. The meet featured competitors from Division I schools Cornell, Syracuse, Binghamton, Colgate and Buffalo, along with Cortland and Ithaca.
Three Cortland athletes reached ECAC qualifying standards with their efforts. Freshman Jessica Stanton (Elmira Heights/Thomas A. Edison) finished fourth in the 500 meters (1:21.89), junior
Keri Laviska (Binghamton/Susquehanna Valley) placed sixth in the pole vault (10' 4”) and sophomore
Lisa Holt (Phoenix/John C. Birdlebough) was eighth in the 3,000 meters (10:42.74).
Other top-10 performances included sophomore
Kristen Serikstad's (Oyster Bay) fifth-place high jump of 5' 3”, a seventh-place pole vault of 9' 10” by junior
Sarah Kimball (Liverpool) and 10th-place showings by senior
Ashley Wirges (Hopewell Junction/Arlington) in the 200 meters (27.77) and freshman
Caitlin Sullivan (Elmira Heights/Thomas A. Edison) in the mile (5:40.72).
