Cortland Finishes Dual-Meet Season With Victory vs. New Paltz

David Dow won the 500-yard and 1,000-yard freestyle races in Cortland's home finale
CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior David Dow (Port St. Lucie, FL/Glastonbury) and junior Drew Hilker (Ithaca) each won two events as Cortland completed its dual-meet schedule with a 117.5-85.5 victory over New Paltz. The Red Dragons finish with a 10-2 dual record, while New Paltz is now 5-4.

Dow won the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:17.45) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:03.62), while Hilker took top honors in both the 50-yard freestyle (22.39) and 100-yard freestyle (48.30). Three other Red Dragons earned individual event victories. Senior Jeremy Cuebas (Brentwood) won the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.60), sophomore Jeff Moessinger (Buffalo/Iroquois) claimed the 200-yard butterfly (2:08.60) and senior Brett Humphreys (Amsterdam) won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.11).

Cortland opened the meet with a victory by junior Roy Culkin (Holtsville/Sachem East), Humphreys, Moessinger and Hilker in the 400-yard medley relay (3:39.42). The Red Dragons also posted the top time as an exhibition entry in the 400-yard freestyle relay as freshman James McCabe (North Massapequa/Farmingdale), Cuebas, senior Evan Jones (East Amherst/Williamsville North) and freshman Matt Young (Richmondville/Schoharie) were clocked in 3:19.24.

Senior Kevin Stuttle (Dryden) provisionally qualified for NCAA's in both diving events. He scored 480.00 points on the one-meter board and 490.00 points on the three-meter board. New Paltz did not have any divers, so it was agreed that the events would not factor into the team scoring.

For New Paltz, sophomore Zack Lowenstein (Brick, NJ/Brick Township) won the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.54) and sophomore Stephen Cozzolongo (Burlington, CT/Lewis Mills) won the 200-yard backstroke (2:00.81).

Cortland and New Paltz return to action Feb. 6-9 at the SUNYAC Championships, which will be held at the Flickinger Center at Erie Community College in Buffalo.
