Red Dragons Earn Runner-up Spot at Colgate Meet

Caitlin Sullivan finished first in the 1,000-meter run
HAMILTON, N.Y. – Junior Keri Laviska (Binghamton/Susquehanna Valley) and freshman Caitlin Sullivan (Elmira Heights/Thomas A. Edison) each won events as Cortland finished second out of 11 schools at the Colgate Class of '32 Invitational. Colgate earned top team honors with 167 points, with Cortland (91), Hamilton (72), Houghton (62) and Roberts Wesleyan (57) comprising the remainder of the top five.

Laviska won the pole vault with an ECAC-qualifying height of 10' 6”. Sullivan crossed the finish line first in the 1,000 meters in 3:11.94, just seven tenths of a second slower than ECAC standards.

Junior Sarah Kimball (Liverpool) finished second in the pole vault (9' 6.25”) and was sixth in the 55-meter hurdles (9.68). Sophomore Kristen Serikstad (Oyster Bay) was the high jump runner-up (5' 1”) and placed sixth in the long jump (15' 6.75”) and sophomore Mallory Baker (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) finished second in the 400 meters (1:02.00) and placed sixth in the 200 meters (27.95).

Junior Carly Kennedy (North Tonawanda) posted a second-place time of 9.17 seconds in the 55-meter hurdles, with sophomore Erin Gallagher (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) fourth in the event at 9.36 seconds. Sophomore Katie Taber (Montour Falls/Odessa-Montour) was third in the high jump (4' 9”) and fifth in the long jump (16' 1”) and freshman Valerie Winbery (Bay Shore) finished third in the shot put (33' 4.5”). The 4x400-meter relay team of senior Ashley Wirges (Hopewell Junction/Arlington), Baker, freshman Jessica Stanton (Elmira Heights/Thomas A. Edison) and Kennedy also finished third in 4:14.18.

Also earning top-six finishes were sophomore Nicole Ragard (Binghamton/Susquehanna Valley) in the pole vault (4th place, 9' 0.25”), Stanton in the 400 meters (4th, 1:03.08), Wirges in the 200 meters (5th, 27.87), sophomore Lauren Phillips (Batavia) in the mile (5th, 5:44.01) and freshman Andrea Palen (Gardiner/Wallkill) in the 800 meters (6th, 2:29.54).
